Francis Newton Souza painted many portraits. This painting "Lady in Tunic" was one of them. However, contrary to his habit (in the 1950s) of painting high eyes and elongated noses, here the facial features were designed to create a frenzy. This painting actually marks Souza's new approach to portraiture from the 1960s onwards.
