Row Of Houses
Francis NEWTON SOUZA
Upon his arrival in London in July 1949, Francis Newton Souza was astonished by the decline of the city following the effects of the Second World War. Until 1955, the artist lived an impoverished existence, and this is reflected in his works, as here in this painting "Row of Houses", 1957. The work is somewhat reminiscent of church stained glass windows.
