Francis Newton Souza is one of the greatest painters of post-independence India. His originality and ideas have earned him great recognition in the West. His style was a subtle blend of Art Brut,expressionism and British Neo-Romanticism. This mixture of styles is reflected in this painting "Portrait of Husain", 1948. A tribute to his compatriot Maqbool Fida Husain, another renowned Indian painter.
